Agriculture Holds the Key to Sudan’s Recovery as Reconstruction Efforts Begin

In an interview with Salah Hamid Ismail, Deputy Chairman of the Sudan Liberation Forces Alliance and former Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources in the Darfur Regional Government, he emphasized that Sudan’s recovery must begin from its rural communities, with agriculture serving as the backbone of economic revival and national reconstruction.

Ismail highlighted the urgent need to support farmers, restore agricultural production, rehabilitate infrastructure, and create sustainable livelihoods for millions of displaced Sudanese returning to their communities.

He stressed that Sudan’s abundant natural resources and agricultural potential can drive economic recovery if supported by strategic planning, investment, improved agricultural inputs, and policies that strengthen production and expand access to global markets.

The interview also addressed post-war reconstruction priorities, social cohesion, institutional reform, and the need for a comprehensive national vision to rebuild Sudan.
