High-Level Diplomatic and UN Launch of Sudan’s Health Strategy 2026–2030

Yesterday evening, Red Sea State witnessed a high-level diplomatic and United Nations-backed launch of the Health Strategy 2026–2030, attended by the Federal Minister of Health, Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, the World Health Organization (WHO) Representative in Sudan, Dr. Shible Sahbani, as well as members of diplomatic missions, international and national organizations, and senior health officials.
In his remarks, the Federal Minister of Health thanked the World Health Organization for its technical and financial support and for organizing this important event. He emphasized that health serves as a bridge to peace and noted that Sudan has not faced its challenges alone, but has been supported by partner countries and international, UN, and national organizations. He explained that since the outbreak of the war, the Ministry has adopted the slogan, “Despite the challenges, we must continue,” stressing that the new strategy will contribute to strengthening and advancing Sudan’s health system.
For his part, Dr. Shible Sahbani welcomed the participants and expressed his appreciation for the presence of the Federal Minister of Health. He noted that the Ministry of Health has moved from the emergency phase to the stage of recovery and development despite major challenges, including shortages of health personnel, medical supplies, and disease outbreaks. He praised the efforts of Ministry staff who continue to work toward improving the health system, highlighting that the 2026–2030 Strategy aims to build a more resilient and responsive health system. He also reaffirmed the World Health Organization’s commitment to continuing its support for Sudan’s health sector.
The event concluded with a number of recognition ceremonies. The World Health Organization honored the Federal Minister of Health for his leadership during a critical period, and also recognized frontline healthcare workers—the “White Army”—for their dedication and service. In turn, the Minister of Health presented an award to Dr. Shible Sahbani in appreciation of his contributions as he prepares to move on to a new assignment.
