Speaking to the press after the meeting, the Director General of the National Health Insurance Fund, Dr. Farouk Nour Al-Daim, commended the Ministry of Finance for providing the necessary funding to sustain health insurance services. He noted that this support had enabled the restoration of services across Sudanese states during the years of conflict.
He added that nearly 1,900 health facilities are currently delivering health insurance services across the country’s states and localities, providing broad access to essential healthcare services. He further stated that the Ministry of Finance has financed health insurance coverage for more than six million households under the national health insurance scheme.
Dr. Farouk explained that the meeting also addressed the challenges facing healthcare financing and explored ways to enhance its sustainability. Both sides agreed on a number of measures and interventions aimed at expanding health insurance coverage, improving service quality, and strengthening integration across different levels of healthcare.
He also revealed that the Ministry of Finance has established a special team to review and evaluate health insurance services in all Sudanese states as part of its oversight role and follow-up of government-funded health services.
The Director General affirmed that the First Undersecretary of the Ministry of Finance pledged to increase funding allocated to the National Health Insurance Fund, with the aim of expanding insurance coverage and bringing more citizens under the national health insurance umbrella.
