Government Commits to Providing an Integrated Solar Power System for Al-Daman Merowe Hospital

As part of the government’s efforts to localize medical treatment within Sudan and enhance the sustainability of specialized healthcare services, a joint meeting was held today involving the Ministries of Finance, Health, Human Resources and Social Welfare, the Social Security Investment Authority, the National Health Insurance Fund, and the management of Merowe Medical City (Al-Daman Merowe Hospital).

The meeting discussed the operational and technical challenges facing this distinguished national medical institution.
Minister of Human Resources and Social Welfare, Moatasim Ahmed Saleh, stated that Al-Daman Merowe Hospital has been providing free pediatric oncology treatment, affordable radiotherapy and specialized medical services, as well as free kidney dialysis services. He noted that the hospital has become one of Sudan’s leading specialized treatment centers and a key institution in promoting treatment within the country.

He added that the meeting underscored the importance of preserving and further developing this pioneering national model. The Ministry of Finance committed to providing a fully integrated solar power system for the hospital. The participants also agreed to establish a technical task force to assess operational challenges, identify maintenance and development needs, and estimate associated costs, paving the way for sustainable solutions that will ensure the continued delivery of high-quality healthcare services to Sudanese citizens.

Saleh emphasized that preserving and developing outstanding national medical institutions is not merely an investment in infrastructure, but an investment in the Sudanese people and their right to access advanced healthcare services within their own country.
