General Education Workers’ Union Affirms Its Support for Teachers

The General Education Workers’ Union of Sudan held its General Secretariat Meeting No. (2), during which Mr. Abbas Habiballah, President of the Union, expressed his gratitude to all members who remained steadfast and dedicated during the previous period.

He also requested the Acting Secretary-General, Ridwan Adam, to present a comprehensive report on the Union’s activities.
The Acting Secretary-General reviewed the Union’s key efforts, including following up on teachers’ salaries, overseeing donations provided by the President, ensuring the payment of May salaries, and securing increased allowances for examination supervisors through the Union’s advocacy.

He also highlighted a meeting with the Registrar of Labor Organizations, Amina Kabar, during which the Union received an official decision confirming that it is an executive union rather than a preparatory one. In addition, coordination took place with the Sudan Workers’ Federation regarding wages and the increase of the minimum wage, alongside continued communication with educational bodies in the states.

For her part, Hanan, the Union’s Treasurer, spoke about the Union’s efforts to support the Teachers’ Medical City. She explained the cooperation with Major General Sami, Director of the Medical City, which culminated in a visit by the Chairman of the Sovereign Council, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, who pledged to finance the renovation of the facility.

Renovation work is currently ongoing under the supervision of the Engineering Council of the General Command.
She also noted the rehabilitation of the Union’s headquarters and paid special tribute to Union member and Facilities Secretary Ismail Doleib, who remained committed until the completion of the renovation works.

Regarding examination-related activities,Hanan explained that the examination committee was formed by the Ministry and is receiving direct supervision from the Minister of Education, Dr. Tahami Al-Zein, and the Undersecretary of the Ministry, Dr. Ahmed Khalifa Omar.

Nizar Al-Sheikh, Teachers’ Syndicate Leader, praised everyone who contributed to the committee’s work, emphasizing that the Union has consistently carried the concerns of teachers and education workers. He stressed that the foremost priorities are implementing the issued directives and working closely with the Ministry of Education to improve the salaries and overall conditions of education workers.

The meeting affirmed that the rights and entitlements of education workers, salary improvements, secondary school examinations, and the Teachers’ Medical City remain at the top of the Union’s agenda. The Union also pledged to continue its efforts to defend teachers’ rights and strengthen their role in building the nation.
