Federal Minister of Health Launches Qatari-Supported Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Program at Wad Madani Heart Center

The city of Wad Madani in Gezira State witnessed the launch of a major Qatari-funded initiative to strengthen cardiac and eye care services. The project was inaugurated by the Federal Minister of Health, Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, alongside the Governor of Gezira State, Al-Tahir Ibrahim Al-Khair, and the Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the State of Qatar in Sudan, Abdullah Rashid Al-Khater. The ceremony was also attended by members of the state’s Security Committee.
The initiative, implemented by Qatar Charity – Sudan Office under Project No. 363848, aims to provide specialized medical camps offering pediatric open-heart surgeries, cardiac catheterization procedures, and eye surgeries.
Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim stated that the Qatari medical mission reflects the restoration of normal life the Gezira State and the full recovery of its healthcare system. He noted that the project includes pediatric open-heart surgeries, cardiac catheterization procedures, and eye surgeries.
The Minister further highlighted Qatar’s significant contribution to supporting hospitals and rehabilitating the state’s healthcare system, enabling Gezira to regain its position as a national medical referral hub. He also announced the resolution of issues related to the administration of hospitals and the entitlements of healthcare workers.
The Governor of Gezira State expressed his gratitude to the Government and people of the State of Qatar for their continued support, emphasizing that the initiative will provide essential healthcare services and ease the burden on families.
He commended the contributions of the Qatar Red Crescent and Qatar Charity in supporting the health sector through food assistance, ambulances, and medical supplies. He further affirmed that the state’s healthcare system has regained its strength through the support of the Federal Ministry of Health, humanitarian organizations, and charitable partners, making Gezira one of Sudan’s leading states in healthcare service delivery.
The Qatari Chargé d’Affaires announced the launch of 50 pediatric cardiac catheterization procedures and 200 cataract surgeries, reaffirming Qatar’s continued commitment to supporting Sudan’s health sector.
Acting State Minister of Health Dr. Omar Al-Tay stated that Gezira State has become the largest government healthcare service hub in Sudan, outlining the extensive efforts made to rehabilitate the state’s health system.
Professor Salah Al-Basha, Director of the National Heart Center, affirmed that the Wad Madani Center for Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery has become a national referral center for cardiac care, thanks to the support of the State Government and the Federal Ministry of Health.
