Egyptian President El-Sisi Receives President Isaias Afwerki of Eritrea

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received President Isaias Afwerki of Eritrea yesterday (Monday).
The official spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency stated that the welcoming ceremony included a guard of honor salute, the playing of the national anthems of both countries, and a commemorative photograph of the two presidents. An expanded meeting was then held with the participation of delegations from both countries, followed by a bilateral meeting between President El-Sisi and the Eritrean President. A luncheon was then hosted by President El-Sisi in honor of the Eritrean President and his accompanying delegation.
Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, the official spokesperson, indicated that the President welcomed the Eritrean President’s visit to his second home, Egypt, noting the deep historical ties that bind the two countries. He emphasized the need to continue working to elevate these relations and advance them in various fields to achieve the shared interests of the two brotherly peoples, particularly through developing trade, economic, and investment cooperation between Egypt and Eritrea. The President also affirmed Egypt’s unwavering commitment to supporting Eritrea’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The spokesperson added that the Eritrean President, for his part, expressed his pride in visiting Egypt and meeting with the President, commending the progress witnessed in bilateral relations between the two countries and Egypt’s support for Eritrea’s development aspirations. He affirmed the Eritrean side’s desire to intensify cooperation with Egypt to strengthen the fraternal relations between the two countries and expand them to broader horizons, in order to achieve shared interests and the aspirations of the two brotherly peoples for prosperity and progress.
The spokesperson stated that the meeting also addressed regional and international developments, with the two presidents discussing the latest developments in the Horn of Africa. In this context, the President affirmed Egypt’s unwavering commitment to maintaining the security and stability of the Horn of Africa, considering it an extension of Egyptian national security. He emphasized the crucial role of coordination between Egypt and Eritrea in preserving the stability of this region.
For his part, the Eritrean President expressed his appreciation for Egypt’s efforts to maintain peace and stability in the Horn of Africa and achieve comprehensive development in its countries. He stressed the importance of bilateral coordination between the two countries to safeguard the foundations of peace and stability in the region.
The official spokesperson added that the two presidents also discussed the latest developments in Sudan. The President reiterated Egypt’s firm support for Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, security, and stability. In this regard, the necessity of ending the current crisis and supporting Sudan in restoring comprehensive stability was emphasized.
The two presidents also discussed existing cooperation between their countries to ensure the security of the Red Sea and freedom of navigation within it. The Egyptian President emphasized the importance of intensifying coordination between the two countries, taking into account the exclusive responsibility of the Red Sea littoral states for its governance and the maintenance of its security and stability. The Eritrean President expressed his agreement with this, and both sides agreed to continue the existing coordination and consultation between their countries to ensure regional peace and stability and to support efforts to achieve comprehensive development in the region.
