Editorial: Let us rally around state institutions

Firstly we strongly condemn the targeting of the city of El-Obied which affected civilians and service facilities, including gas stations. This resulted in widespread panic among citizens and directly harmed their interests and livelihoods.

It goes without saying that targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure is unacceptable and condemned by all national and humanitarian standards. It constitutes a serious transgression that exacerbates the suffering of the Sudanese people, who have been exhausted by war and its economic, social, and humanitarian repercussions.

We call for intensified efforts to protect civilians and secure vital and service facilities that are the lifeblood of the nation.

We reiterate our support for the Sudanese Armed Forces and the joint forces as they carry out their national duty of defending the homeland, protecting citizens, and maintaining the country’s security and stability.

We stress that national unity and rallying around state institutions are a national imperative at this critical juncture for Sudan.

She added that targeting safe cities and civilian infrastructure will not deter Sudanese people from upholding their country’s unity and supporting their national institutions; rather, it will only strengthen their resolve to overcome this ordeal and preserve Sudan as a unified, secure, and stable nation.

She called for respect for international humanitarian law, sparing civilians the horrors of war, and working to bolster national efforts aimed at achieving lasting security, stability, and peace in Sudan.
