The city of El Geneina witnessed a serious security breakdown following violent armed clashes between the Salamat and Bani Halba tribes.

Videos circulated by activists on social media documented the intensity of the fighting, which lasted from midday until sunset, leaving dozens wounded and bodies scattered in the streets amidst a dire humanitarian situation.

Field sources confirmed that the ongoing fighting was characterized by “street warfare,” with snipers taking positions on the rooftops of tall buildings, hindering efforts to recover the victims.

The circulated videos showed desperate and risky attempts to evacuate wounded people lying on the ground under a hail of bullets, in the complete absence of security interventions to resolve the conflict.
