Russia Recognizes Al-Burhan as the Legitimate Authority in Sudan

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Georgy Borisenko affirmed that his country’s position on the war in Sudan is based on recognizing the Sudanese government and the Sovereignty Council, headed by Lieutenant General Abul Fattah al-Burhan, as the legitimate authority in the country.

In press statements, Borisenko indicated that Moscow is considering the possibility of relocating its diplomatic representation from Port Sudan to Khartoum as soon as security and political conditions permit.

The Russian official reiterated his country’s condemnation of the massacres that took place in the Darfur region last year, stressing the need to stop the flow of weapons to the Rapid Support Forces militia, as the continued supply of arms contributes to prolonging the conflict and exacerbating the suffering of civilians.

These statements come within the framework of Russia’s supportive stance towards stability in Sudan, amidst ongoing international efforts to pressure for a ceasefire and a comprehensive political solution.
