Ministers of Health of IGAD Member States Hold Emergency Ministerial Meeting to Address Ebola and Secure Border Crossings

The Federal Minister of Health, Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, participated in a meeting of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) member states to discuss developments related to the emergence of Ebola in the region. The meeting included participation from Sudan, Uganda, Kenya, Somalia, and Djibouti, in addition to several United Nations agencies and partners.
During the meeting, participants reviewed the available information on the disease and the potential risks threatening the region, emphasizing the importance of joint action in surveillance, investigation, and the exchange of health data. Participants also stressed the need to mobilize resources from within member states, alongside utilizing the pandemic response support fund to strengthen preparedness and response efforts.
The meeting further highlighted the importance of securing and equipping border crossings to protect citizens, especially given the large Sudanese communities residing in these countries. Participants affirmed their commitment to coordinating efforts during the coming phase to collectively address health challenges.
