IGAD Health Ministers Hold Emergency Meeting to Discuss Ebola Outbreak

The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) held an emergency ministerial meeting of health ministers from member states following the confirmation of an Ebola outbreak in the region.

The organization noted that the outbreak is linked to continued transmission in eastern Congo, underscoring the urgent need for coordinated regional efforts, enhanced cross-border surveillance, and collective preparedness through the PREPARE project, supported by the Pandemic Preparedness Fund and implemented in collaboration with the World Health Organization and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.

IGAD affirmed its commitment to continuing its work in strengthening regional health security and response capacities.
