IGAD Executive Secretary Addresses the 2026 Annual Pan-African Media Summit

In his speech in the 2026 Annual Pan-African Media Summit, IGAD Executive Secretary Workneh Gebeyehu affirms the organization’s commitment to supporting media sustainability and protecting editorial integrity in its member states.

He calls on the media to craft narratives that reflect reality and shape the future, acting as guardians of truth and a powerful force in shaping society.

Dr. Gebeyehu posted the following on X platform:

The media is not a spectator to Africa’s transformation, it is a driving force. As digital innovation and AI reshape the landscape, they expand access to information while also risking the spread of content that erodes trust.

Today, at the Annual Pan-African Media Summit 2026 in Nairobi, Kenya I called on the media to shape narratives that reflect our realities and define our future, as a guardian of truth and a force shaping society.

At IGAD, we remain committed to advocating media sustainability and safeguarding editorial integrity across our Member States and beyond.
