Federal Ministry of Health and Gezira Scheme Sign Historic( MoU )to Combat Disease Vectors and Malaria

Today, May 11, 2026, Gezira State witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Federal Ministry of Health and the Gezira Scheme to cooperate in combating disease vectors and implementing residual insecticide spraying operations in targeted localities within the project area.
The signing took place in the presence of the Governor of Gezira State, Ibrahim Al-Tahir, the Acting State Minister of Health, Dr. Osama Abdelrahman, and the Director of the Vector Control Department, Hamza Sami Al-Jak. This initiative stems from a shared national responsibility to protect public health and strengthen health security in Sudan.
The Federal Minister of Health, Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, described the signing as a historic moment that will have a lasting impact, emphasizing that it represents an important intervention following a halt of more than six years. He noted that the Gezira Scheme has made a strong return in advancing human health.
The Governor of Gezira State expressed his happiness with the signing, affirming that it aligns with community responsibility to combat disease vectors and work toward eliminating malaria.
For his part, the Governor of the Gezira Scheme, Eng. Ibrahim Mustafa, stated that the MoU aims to protect farmers’ health and contribute to increased agricultural productivity.
