Federal Health Undersecretary Discusses Bilateral Relations with Yemeni Ambassador
The Federal Ministry of Health Undersecretary, Dr. Ali Babikir, met today in his office with His Excellency the Ambassador of Yemen, Omar Abdullah Al-Madawi, and Consul Dr. Abdelhaq Ali Yaqoub. The meeting was attended by the Director General of International Health, Dr. Alaa Mudathir, the Director General of Health Human Resources, Dr. Amal Abdo, and the Director of the Undersecretary’s Office, Dr. Mohammed Marwan.
The meeting discussed bilateral relations between the two countries, particularly in the health sector.
The Undersecretary affirmed the strength of the longstanding ties between the two nations, including in the health field, noting ongoing efforts to further develop these relations. He also highlighted the possibility of admitting Yemeni students to the University of Health Sciences in various disciplines, and directed that the memorandum of understanding be upgraded into a formal agreement for signing.
For his part, the Ambassador stated that the graduation and internship training of a large number of Yemeni doctors in Sudan is a source of pride and honor. He expressed his appreciation to the Ministries of Health and Higher Education for their role in training and qualifying Yemeni medical personnel, adding: “The largest number of Yemeni medical cadres graduated from Sudanese universities.”
Meanwhile, Dr. Amal Abdo, Director General of Health Human Resources, praised the role of the Yemeni Embassy and Consulate in supporting their doctors. She also thanked Yemen’s Ministry of Health for receiving Sudanese doctors during the war and allowing them to join hospital training free of charge alongside their peers. She confirmed that the Ministry will facilitate Yemeni counterparts to complete their internship period in Sudan upon finalizing the required procedures.
Dr. Alaa Mudathir, Director General of International Health, also highlighted the quadrilateral agreement involving Sudan, Yemen, Djibouti, and Somalia, supported by the Regional Office of the World Health Organization for the Eastern Mediterranean.
