Egypt condemns attack on Khartoum airport

The Arab Republic of Egypt strongly condemned the drone attack on Khartoum International Airport, describing the incident as a blatant violation of Sudanese sovereignty and a direct threat to the safety of civilian infrastructure and the Sudanese people.

In an official statement issued Tuesday, Cairo affirmed that this attack represents a dangerous escalation that will further complicate the security and humanitarian situation and hinder efforts to reach a humanitarian truce in the country.

It expressed its deep concern and condemnation of the increasing frequency of attacks, which reports indicate originated from the territory of a neighboring country.

The Sudanese government had explicitly accused Ethiopia of involvement in launching these attacks.

The Egyptian statement warned that these actions threaten to widen the scope of the conflict and extend it to the surrounding region, thus undermining international efforts led by the United States within the “International Quartet” aimed at establishing a complete ceasefire and paving the way for a comprehensive, Sudanese-owned political process, free from foreign interference.

In a related context, Egypt reiterated its firm stance rejecting all forms of interference in Sudanese affairs, emphasizing the need to respect Sudan’s unity and sovereignty, and to adhere to the principles of good neighborliness and the UN Charter. It also renewed its support for all efforts aimed at containing the crisis, affirming its continued commitment to working with partners to de-escalate tensions and prioritize peaceful solutions that fulfill the aspirations of the Sudanese people for security and stability.
