Sudanese Bar Association Initiates International Lawsuits Against the UAE

The Sudanese Bar Association has initiated procedures to file international lawsuits against the United Arab Emirates and the leadership of the rebel Rapid Support Forces militia for the violations and crimes committed in Sudan during the nearly three years of war.

The head of the Sudanese Bar Association, Zain al-Abidin Muhammad Hamad, stated that a delegation of lawyers from Britain will arrive in Sudan in the coming days to prepare for filing lawsuits against the UAE, members and leaders of the rebel militia, and their supporters inside and outside the country in British courts. They will also seek compensation for the Sudanese people and redress for the harm caused by the killing, looting, and all other crimes and violations committed by the militia.

During his address to a gathering of young lawyers in Port Sudan on Monday, the Bar Association President reiterated the Association’s support for the Armed Forces in the Battle of Dignity. He emphasized that without the sacrifices of the Armed Forces, supporting forces, and those mobilized, this gathering would not have been possible. He prayed for a decisive victory, the recovery of the nation, and the safe and stable return of citizens to their homes. He commended the young lawyers, affirming that they are the standard-bearers who will lead the Association in the future.

For his part, the Secretary-General of the Bar Association, Imad al-Din al-Fadni, revealed ambitious and targeted programs aimed at young lawyers in the coming period. He affirmed the Association’s support for the Armed Forces from the very beginning of the war.

The Secretary-General disclosed that more than 400 lawyers are mobilized on the front lines, in addition to the 35 martyrs who have fallen defending the nation and its citizens in the Battle of Dignity against the rebel militia, its allies, mercenaries, and supporters both inside and outside the country. He expressed optimism that victory is imminent.

For his part, Mohamed Ghazi, a representative of young lawyers, announced a youth initiative to rebuild the Lawyers’ House in Khartoum, calling on all young people to actively contribute to the reconstruction of the House in Khartoum, Port Sudan, and all other branches across the states.

Ghazi also announced 10 scholarships for young lawyers to pursue master’s and doctoral degrees, in addition to training courses and workshops for young people in the fields of human rights and computer skills, an initiative spearheaded by Dr. Omar Elsayed.
