SSMO Seizes 6,000 Bottles of Non-Compliant Cooking Oil in River Nile State

Sudanese Standards and Metrology Organization (SSMO) in the River Nile State seized 6,000 bottles of cooking oil that did not meet standard specifications as part of the “Towards a Safe Consumer in Ramadan” campaign.

The sector director, Dr. Ahmed Sayed Ahmed, explained that the seizure came after violations were detected related to the product’s failure to meet the requirements of the Sudanese Standard Specification for Cooking Oils No. (SSDQ 199/2017).

The Director of Industrial Inspection, Eng. Al-Zubair Abdullah, explained that the SSMO conducts periodic audits of industrial facilities to ensure their compliance with technical requirements and good manufacturing practices. He noted that laboratory tests on the seized oil revealed several instances of non-compliance.

He added that the violations included the use of raw materials exposed to moisture, inadequate storage systems for raw materials and the final product, and a lack of regular inspections of the production lines. He confirmed that the inspection teams worked to correct a number of procedures within the facility in accordance with sound manufacturing requirements, noting that the authority will continue its monitoring campaigns on various industrial activities to ensure product safety and consumer protection.
