SFPA – River Nile State – commemorates International Women’s Day

Sudan Family Planning Association (SFPA), River Nile State, celebrated International Women’s Day yesterday, March 8th.

Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girls,” the theme for this year’s International Women’s Day, emphasizes the urgent need to address entrenched inequalities and accelerate progress toward gender justice. This global call to action highlights the enduring legal gaps, discriminatory systems, and persistent forms of violence that continue to hamper women’s and girls’ rights.

On this occasion, we, in The Citizen, extend our appreciation and respect to all women in Sudan and around the world who contribute to building and developing societies.

International Women’s Day is an opportunity to highlight the challenges facing women and to commend their achievements in various fields.

Despite the progress made, much work remains to be done to ensure gender equality and women’s empowerment, particularly in the areas of health, education, and the economy.

So, how can we address these challenges and advance women’s rights?

First, governments and organizations must take concrete steps to prevent and combat violence against women. This includes enacting and enforcing laws to prevent violence, providing support services for survivors, and raising awareness and educating the public about prevention methods.

Governments and organizations should also work to promote women’s access to education and economic opportunities. This includes providing scholarships and other forms of support to help women continue their education, encouraging women’s entrepreneurship and job creation, and working to close the gender pay gap and eliminate other forms of discrimination.

Finally, governments and organizations should work to promote women’s participation in public life. This includes providing training and support to help women run for public office, promoting women’s participation in leadership positions and decision-making bodies, and working to remove barriers and discrimination that prevent women from participating in public life.

International Women’s Day is not just a celebration; it is a call to action for women’s rights. This day commemorates the ongoing struggle for women’s rights and calls on individuals, organizations, and governments to take concrete steps to promote and protect these rights.

Working together, we can build a world where women have equal opportunities in education, economic opportunities, and participation in public life, and a world where they are safe from violence and discrimination. This is the world we want to build, and the world we must build to achieve true equality and justice for all.
