Minister of Energy, Engineer Al-Mutasim Ibrahim Ahmed, announced yesterday his commitment to paying outstanding financial arrears to employees after coordinating with the Ministry of Finance to determine a payment schedule. He confirmed that the Ministry of Finance is planning a significant salary increase, potentially reaching 100%, which will be applied to employees in the electricity sector, as approved by the Wages Council. The possibility of extending this increase to non-employees currently residing outside Sudan is also being considered.

The Minister added that the Ministry has made advance payments in hard currency for the importation of large transformers to address electricity problems at substations, with deliveries expected to begin in May or June. He emphasized the Ministry’s readiness to provide all necessary support to ensure the stability of employees in the sector and revealed a plan to increase electricity generation.

The Minister concluded by praising the efforts and resilience of the employees during the national struggle, indicating that he will address them and their unions directly in the coming days.
