Darfur Governor Assesses the Conditions of Displaced People in the Salha Neighborhood of Omdurman
Darfur Governor and Chairman of the Sudan Liberation Movement/Army, Minni Arko Minnawi, affirmed that the humanitarian conditions faced by a large number of displaced people in Sudan represent one of the most painful issues. He pointed out that the scenes of displacement and homelessness experienced by citizens in some areas leave a profound impact and call for serious action to address this suffering.
Minnawi’s statements came after a field visit he made to a number of displaced families in the Salha neighborhood of Omdurman, Khartoum State, where he witnessed firsthand the difficult living conditions faced by the displaced people who came from various areas in the Darfur region.
Minnawi said that touring the various states of Sudan reveals the extent of the suffering endured by many citizens who were forced to leave their homes in search of security and stability. He explained that many families are living in dire circumstances after losing their homes and livelihoods.
He added that what he witnessed during the visit reflects a difficult humanitarian reality, with some families sleeping on the streets or living in temporary conditions lacking the most basic necessities. This situation necessitates a concerted effort from official and community bodies to provide them with the necessary support.
He said that these difficult humanitarian conditions place a doubled moral and national responsibility on everyone. He called on state institutions, humanitarian organizations, and the community to work together to alleviate the suffering of the displaced and provide them with their basic needs.
Minnawi pointed out that supporting affected families should be a humanitarian priority, stressing that standing with the displaced and helping them overcome this phase is a national duty that requires everyone’s cooperation.
He emphasized the importance of strengthening the spirit of community solidarity at this stage and working to provide a safe and stable environment for those affected, enabling them to live with dignity in their homeland, in addition to supporting initiatives aimed at improving their living conditions.
Minnawi concluded by emphasizing that addressing the effects of displacement requires continuous collective action, noting that concerted efforts among various parties can contribute to alleviating the suffering of affected families and helping them return to their normal lives.
