At the Emergency Operations Center meeting: rising cases of dengue, malaria, and measles.
The Federal Emergency Operations Center held its meeting on Tuesday in the Great Hall of the Federal Health Headquarters in Khartoum, reviewing the health situation in the country and the interventions to combat it. The surveillance and information report confirmed the high rate of dengue fever in the states of Khartoum, Gezira, White Nile, River Nile, and North, pointing to a significant increase compared to the same date last year, with 6,976 cumulative infections, including 5 deaths. Meanwhile, malaria infections increased, especially in the states of Khartoum, River Nile, White Nile, and Gezira.
It was pointed out that the island is still recording cases of hepatitis E despite a decrease compared to last week, and the localities of Tawil in North Darfur, as well as the localities of Al-Duweem and Dalti in White Nile, are recording the most measles infections.
The response report pointed to the most prominent interventions to confront dengue fever in the north, including the activation of the emergency room headed by the state and localities, the financing of the response plan, and the dispatch of supplies. It also highlighted the interventions to confront the hepatitis epidemic on the island and the activation of the technical committee to follow up on meningitis cases in the affected states. The report announced that the number of displaced people reached 58,158 families and 227,519 individuals, along with the interventions implemented in the host states.
The Minister directed Prof. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim to intensify efforts to confront the measles epidemic and make arrangements for control, stressing the need to raise the level of preventive work for hepatitis E on the island and to address the problem of malaria drug availability and shortages, especially since the autumn season is just around the corner.
The minister announced the approval of the budgets for the dengue fever campaigns in the north and Khartoum, calling for a pivotal role for the states and localities.
