Al-Burhan Receives UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy 

Head of the Transitional Sovereignty Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Abdul Fattah al-Burhan, met today with the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General, Mr. Pekka Haavisto, in the presence of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Mohi El-Din Salem.

The meeting addressed the current situation in the country and the efforts being made to enhance security and stability and achieve comprehensive peace.

For his part, the UN envoy, Mr. Haavisto, expressed his pleasure at meeting with Head of the Sovereignty Council, reiterating his commitment to supporting efforts aimed at reaching a ceasefire and finding a peaceful, lasting, and sustainable solution to the ongoing conflict in Sudan.

The envoy stressed the critical importance of adopting dialogue and de-escalation as essential steps towards a comprehensive cessation of hostilities.

 He stressed the need to continue engaging in tracks that prioritize the protection of civilians and to explore confidence-building measures that would create the conditions conducive to real progress.

 Haavisto said, “The United Nations remains fully engaged with all stakeholders to promote peace and stability and deliver humanitarian assistance throughout the country.” He noted that his current visit represents an important opportunity to hear directly from key political and civil actors.

Pekka Haavisto also emphasized the UN Security Council and Secretary-General’s commitment to the unity and territorial integrity of Sudan as fundamental. He added that the United Nations stands firmly with the Sudanese people and remains committed to working alongside its international partners to support serious steps to end the fighting and chart a path toward lasting peace achieved through a genuine and inclusive dialogue.
