UNDP Deputy Resident Representative Visits National Medical Supplies Fund in Khartoum

Deputy Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP),
Ms. Surayukhon Bzerkova visited the National Medical Supplies Fund (NMSF) in Khartoum, where she met with the Director General of the NMSF, Dr. Badreddine Mohamed Ahmed Al-Jazouli. This visit was part of an assessment of the current situation of health institutions following the damage caused by the war, and to discuss ways of support and cooperation during the recovery and reconstruction phase.

During the meeting, the Managing Director of the Fund provided a comprehensive briefing on the scale of the significant destruction of the Fund’s infrastructure, including warehouses, operational facilities, and technical systems, as well as the consequent challenges that have directly impacted pharmaceutical supply chains and the provision of life-saving medicines to citizens.

Dr. Badr El-Din explained that the Fund has developed an integrated plan for reconstruction and rehabilitation, based on the rehabilitation of damaged warehouses and headquarters, the restoration of operational systems, and the enhancement of technical and logistical capabilities. In addition, alternative energy solutions will be introduced to ensure business continuity, especially in the preservation of medicines and vaccines that require continuous refrigeration.

He also pointed to the pivotal role played by the National Medical Supplies Fund in securing medicine at the national level, stressing the importance of partnerships with international organizations, especially the United Nations Development Programme, to support recovery efforts and build a more resilient pharmaceutical supply system in the face of crises.

For her part, Ms. Surayukhon Bazrukova affirmed UNDP’s interest in supporting the health sector in Sudan, praising the efforts made by the Fund’s management and staff, despite the exceptional circumstances, reiterated the program’s commitment to continue coordination and cooperation to support reconstruction plans and enhance the sustainability of health services.

This visit is part of a series of field visits carried out by UNDP to identify the needs of national institutions and support early recovery and reconstruction efforts in Sudan.
