Sudanese in Europe Protest International Silence on Rebel Militia Abuses

Sudanese residents in European countries held a protest in the French city of Marseille to mark 1,000 days since the start of the war in Sudan and to protest the international community’s silence regarding the practices and abuses committed by the rebel Rapid Support Forces militia against civilians.

The Sudan News Agency quoted Mohamed Ibrahim, a representative of the Sudanese Youth in Exile group, on Sunday as saying that the international community’s “suspicious silence” has been the dominant characteristic throughout the past thousand days of the war. He condemned the way the international community and its institutions are dealing with the situation in Sudan and their indifference to the suffering of the Sudanese people.

The participating groups raised banners calling for the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) to be designated a terrorist organization and punished for all the crimes they have committed, which amount to war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide. They also stressed the importance of the international community responding positively to the suffering of the Sudanese people.

The participants condemned the negative interventions of some countries and their complicity in the deployment of mercenaries and lethal weapons to kill Sudanese citizens. They expressed their dismay at the silence of human rights and humanitarian organizations worldwide, particularly the International Criminal Court, regarding these crimes committed by the rebel militia.
