Sudan Welcomes Hosting the Peace and Security Council in Khartoum

Sudan’s representative to the African Union, Ambassador Al-Zein Ibrahim Hussein, met on Monday with the African Union Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security, Ambassador Bankole Adeoye, to discuss developments in the country and the Sudanese peace initiative.

The Ambassador briefed the African Commissioner on the positive developments in Sudan and provided an overview of the peace initiative announced by Prime Minister Kamil Idris before the UN Security Council, reiterating Sudan’s commitment to achieving peace and stability.

Ambassador Al-Zein Ibrahim reiterated Sudan’s welcome of hosting the African Union Peace and Security Council in Khartoum, expressing the country’s appreciation for the African Union’s support and assistance, and calling for continued solidarity with Sudan during this period. The talks addressed arrangements for Sudan’s participation in the African Union Peace and Security Council session scheduled for February 10 in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, under the chairmanship of Egypt. The Permanent Representative also briefed the Council on the return of the government and state institutions to Khartoum to resume their functions, and the resumption of commercial flights at Khartoum Airport.

The discussions covered the arrangements for Sudan’s participation in the African Union Peace and Security Council session scheduled for February 10 in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, under the chairmanship of Egypt.
