SAPA Launches Ramadan 2026 Humanitarian Initiative to Support 137,000 Sudanese

The Sudanese American Physicians Association in the United States (SAPA) announced the launch of a humanitarian initiative for the month of Ramadan to support 137,000 Sudanese. The initiative aims to cover food and humanitarian routes, ensuring that support reaches those in need efficiently and transparently.

The project aims to protect 137,500 individuals across 27,500 households by providing 480,000 hot meals served daily through community-based central kitchens in Khartoum, North Darfur, and South Kordofan states. It also includes the distribution of 5,500 integrated food baskets in five major states, each containing 13 basic food items that take into account the local culture, such as flour, oil, dates, hibiscus, and legumes.

The scope of the project extends to seven Sudanese states: Khartoum, North Darfur, South Kordofan, White Nile, Northern State, North Kordofan, and West Darfur, based on recorded rates of displacement and malnutrition.

The implementation involves 120 young volunteers who have been trained to ensure compliance with protection standards and humanitarian accountability during mobilization and distribution.

The average cost to support a family throughout the project is US$83.43, reflecting efficient resource management and maximum value for spending. SAPA stresses that this initiative comes within the framework of promoting human dignity and providing food to Sudanese families in their most needy periods, making the month of Ramadan an opportunity for solidarity and community support.
