Militia Drone Targets Musa Hilal

Mustariha area – a stronghold of the Mahamid tribe in North Darfur State – was attacked by a drone belonging to the Rapid Support Forces militia.

Ahmed Abkar, spokesperson for the Revolutionary Awakening Council, stated that a series of drone strikes targeted the Mustariha area this evening. He indicated that the attack focused primarily on the guesthouse of Sheikh Musa Hilal.

Abkar confirmed that Hilal is safe and survived the assassination attempt, but did not rule out civilian casualties.

The spokesperson explained that the attack was carried out in two phases; the first targeted a mourning tent, and the second struck a citizen’s home, resulting, according to initial reports, in civilian casualties. An accurate count of the casualties is not yet available.

This development comes amid a sharp escalation between Sheikh Musa Hilal and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia leadership, particularly after a speech Hilal delivered days earlier to a crowd of his supporters in Mustariha. In his speech, Hilal accused the RSF’s deputy commander, Abdel Rahim Dagalo, of attempting to dismantle the Mahamid tribe by sowing discord and fueling internal divisions with money and weapons. Hilal described the RSF as a “mercenary gang and militia,” reiterating his full support for the Sudanese Armed Forces and his solidarity with its commander-in-chief, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan.

Mustariha region is considered the tribal and military stronghold of the Mahamid tribe and has witnessed repeated tensions between Hilal and the RSF in recent years.
