Justice Minister Meets with High Commissioner for Human Rights and Senior Staff

Minister of Justice, Dr. Abdullah Mohammed Dirif, held a meeting with the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, and his senior staff on the sidelines of his participation in the 61st session of the Human Rights Council.

The Minister reviewed the latest developments in Sudan, focusing primarily on the Sudanese government’s peace initiative. He outlined the state’s efforts in protecting and promoting human rights, achieving justice, providing redress for victims, and preventing impunity. He discussed the work of the National Commission for Investigating Crimes and Violations of National and International Humanitarian Law, the National Human Rights Mechanism, the National Mechanism for the Protection of Civilians, and the National Committee for International Humanitarian Law. The meeting was also attended by Dr. Salma Ishaq Al-Khalifa Sharif, Minister of State at the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Welfare.

The High Commissioner for Human Rights expressed his gratitude to the Government of Sudan for arranging his recent visit to the country and his meeting with survivors of the brutal militia massacres in El Fasher at the Al-Afad camp in the Northern State, appreciating the cooperation of the Government of Sudan with the Human Rights Country Office in Sudan, and promising that human rights issues in Sudan, and the crimes committed by the Rapid Support Forces militia in El Fasher, will remain under his and the Commission’s team’s follow-up.
