Energy Minister confirms the state’s focus on expanding new energy sources
Minister of Energy, Engineer Al-Mutasim Ibrahim Ahmed, affirmed the state’s commitment to expanding new energy sources such as solar and wind power. This commitment is demonstrated by the enactment of relevant legislation and the exemption of inputs from certain regulations.
He added that agricultural projects have begun relying on solar power plants. This statement was made during his chairmanship of the periodic meeting of electricity companies, held to coordinate, prioritize, expedite work, and strengthen coordination with the Ministry of Finance and the Bank of Sudan.
The meeting reviewed the status of electricity companies and the urgent plans for importing transformers and financing the necessary requirements for the national grid. Discussions included the status of hydroelectric power generation from dams and the challenges facing increased generation, as well as thermal power generation and the status of the Umm Dabakir, Khartoum North, Qari, Kalaniib, and Al-Barha power stations in Port Sudan. The meeting also addressed the necessary requirements for upgrading these stations and increasing their electricity production. Furthermore, the meeting reviewed the status of electricity transmission, the challenges facing the national grid, and the rehabilitation of the main control center to connect the national grid and the telecommunications network.
Finally, the meeting discussed the status of transformer imports, installation, and maintenance related to transformer cables and the repair of damaged cables.
The meeting addressed the need to complete the rehabilitation of the transformer workshop, which is responsible for the maintenance of transformers and their accessories.
The meeting also agreed on developing a plan and vision for the electricity sector extending to 2030.
Furthermore, the meeting discussed the overall challenges facing the electricity sector and how to overcome it, and affirmed the commitment to protecting employees and ensuring their rights and working conditions.
