Army Strikes al-Hilu Positions in Kauda

In a significant development on the ground in South Kordofan State, field sources reported that Sudanese army drones carried out concentrated strikes on positions belonging to Abdelaziz al-Hilu’s militia in the Kauda area, the movement’s main stronghold in the region.

These attacks come amidst a mutual military escalation in the region in recent weeks, as each side attempts to consolidate its control on the ground.

According to the sources, the strikes targeted sites believed to contain weapons depots and fighter positions, resulting in casualties, the details of which have not yet been released. This move reflects the army’s increasing use of drones in field operations, in an attempt to enhance its ability to strike distant or fortified targets within rugged terrain.

Kauda, ​​which has long been a political and military stronghold for the SPLM-North led by al-Hilu, remains one of the most sensitive points in the Sudanese landscape, making any escalation there likely to redraw the lines of confrontation in South Kordofan and open the door to a new round of tensions in the absence of an effective negotiating track.
