UNESCO Congratulates the Government on the Recovery of a Number of Looted Sudanese Artifacts

The Director of the UNESCO Office in Sudan congratulated the Sudanese government on the recovery of a number of Sudanese artifacts looted by rebel militias, noting that this success demonstrates Sudan’s commitment to protecting its cultural heritage during times of crisis and conflict.

Speaking at an event organized by the Ministry of Culture, Information, and Tourism at the Al-Rabwa Complex to celebrate the recovery of a number of looted Sudanese artifacts, he affirmed UNESCO’s full commitment to supporting Sudan in protecting its antiquities and heritage, given their historical and cultural significance.

He added that this sends a strong message to the international community that Sudanese cultural heritage will not be lost and will remain an important part of Sudanese national identity.

He noted UNESCO’s cooperation with the Ministry of Culture, Information, and Tourism in inventorying and restoring the collection. UNESCO also provided museum staff with necessary equipment, such as laptops, printers, desktop computers, and cameras, to enable them to continue their important work of inventorying the collection and identifying looted artifacts.
