Jaber Inaugurates Bank of Sudan Operations in Khartoum

Lieutenant General Ibrahim Jaber Ibrahim, Member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Assistant Commander-in-Chief, and Head of the Higher Committee for Preparing the Environment for the Return to Khartoum State, inaugurated the Central Bank of Sudan’s operations in Khartoum State yesterday.
This took place in the presence of the Federal Minister of Finance, Dr. Jibril Ibrahim, the Governor of Khartoum State, Mr. Ahmed Osman Hamza, and the Governor of the Central Bank of Sudan.
The Federal Minister of Finance, Dr. Jibril Ibrahim, stated that the Central Bank’s resumption of operations in the capital, Khartoum, is a strong indicator of the restoration of security and stability in the state, given the banks’ high sensitivity to security conditions. This paves the way for the return of business owners and investors.
He added that the stability witnessed in Khartoum State today represents a victory for the Armed Forces and their supporting forces, after their success in establishing security and creating a suitable environment for banks and government institutions to resume their functions.
Dr. Jibril also commended the efforts of the High Committee in restoring essential services and rehabilitating infrastructure in most areas of the capital. He appealed to various sectors and citizens to contribute to the ongoing reconstruction and reform efforts to alleviate the harsh conditions suffered by the Sudanese people.
In a related context, the Minister of Finance revealed a package of positive developments within the new budget, most notably the approval of a gradual increase in wages, based on the estimates of the Supreme Council for Wages, to reach satisfactory levels, while ensuring that these increases do not impact inflation rates.
The Governor of the Central Bank of Sudan, Amina Mirghani Hassan Al-Tom, praised the sacrifices of the Armed Forces and supporting forces in defeating the rebel militia and restoring security. She emphasized that this stability was the primary factor in the banking sector’s return to Khartoum.
She explained that the return of the Central Bank and the Ministry of Finance to Khartoum strengthens financial and economic stability, noting the bank’s efforts to revitalize the banking system by activating the clearinghouse and launching the national switch to stimulate the flow of funds.
The governor also revealed the imminent launch of a unified application for financial institutions, announcing amendments to financing policies that include support for educational and health institutions and improved housing through microfinance, as part of reconstruction efforts and compensation for citizens affected by the war.
The Governor of Khartoum, Ahmed Osman Hamza, affirmed that the Central Bank’s resumption of operations from within the capital is a fundamental pillar for economic recovery and an incentive for other financial institutions to return. He noted that this step has helped overcome numerous challenges and sent a reassuring message to international monetary institutions regarding the establishment of security and stability in the state.
