High Commissioner Concludes Visit to Northern State with Inspection of Al-Afad IDPs Camp

The High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, and his accompanying delegation, inspected today (Friday) a camp for displaced persons from Darfur and Kordofan states in the Al-Afad area of rural Al-Dabba. During the visit, he met with a number of displaced persons and observed the extent of the efforts and services provided by the government and the local community.
The High Commissioner and his delegation were accompanied on the tour by a delegation from the National Human Rights Mechanism.
The High Commissioner had arrived yesterday (Thursday) in the Northern State and met with the Governor, Lieutenant General Abdul Rahman Abdul Hamid Ibrahim, at his office, in the presence of members of the National Human Rights Mechanism, the Secretary of Social Affairs in the Northern State government, and the Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid in the state.
In press statements following his meeting with the governor, the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, expressed his pleasure at visiting the Northern State, explaining that the visit aimed to assess the human rights situation in the state and the violations suffered by civilians, and that it came within the framework of solidarity with Sudan, supporting victims and survivors of violations and providing them with the necessary assistance.
