Minister of Human Resources Receives ILO Delegation for the Horn of Africa

The Minister of Human Resources and Social Welfare, Mutasem Ahmed Saleh, received the delegation of the International Labour Organization (ILO) for the Horn of Africa, headed by Stephen Obio, along with the PROSPECTS program team in Sudan, within the framework of joint cooperation to enhance the government’s efforts in rebuilding the labor and social protection system.

The meeting discussed the continuation of ILO technical support in accordance with the Decent Work Programme (DWCP), especially regarding the response to the crisis, support for the return of displaced people, and recovery projects in Khartoum and war-affected states. The meeting also addressed the importance of qualifying and developing the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) system to empower youth and raise the skills of the labor market.

The meeting touched on the expansion of FAO’s PROSPECTS program interventions to includenew states besides White Nile and Slas, in support of agricultural value chains, improving vocational training, and financing small projects for youth in areas of displacement.

The Minister affirmed the Ministry’s commitment to the tripartite (government, workers, and employers) and to promote dialogue between these partners as an integral part of building a fair and stable labor market.

The organization expressed its appreciation for Sudan’s role in the ILO Board of Directors, and we affirmed continued coordination with our UN partners, led by UNICEF and UNHCR, to support the displaced and empower youth economically and socially
