Belaiche delivers written message from the Chairperson of the AU Commission to Al-Burhan
Head of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Lieutenant General Abdul Fattah al-Burhan, received a written message from the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mr. Mahmoud Ali Youssef, during his meeting today (Friday) in Port Sudan with the African Union envoy to Sudan, Ambassador Mohamed Belaiche.
In a press statement, the African envoy explained that the meeting provided a valuable opportunity to consult on the most effective ways to advance national, regional, and international efforts to ensure the stability and security of Sudan, given its pivotal role in the region and its status as a cornerstone of the African Union.
Ambassador Belaiche indicated that he listened to the Sudanese leadership’s vision and analysis regarding the evolving situation and prospects for a solution, particularly the roadmap announced last February.
The envoy stressed the full and unwavering commitment of the African Union Commission and the Peace and Security Council to supporting Sudan’s sovereignty and unity, emphasizing that “there is no place for any parallel institution on Sudanese soil.” He also reiterated the importance of a peaceful political solution through a comprehensive national dialogue, which is the objective of the “Quintet Mechanism” comprised of the African Union, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), the United Nations, the League of Arab States, and the European Union.
A press release issued by the Transitional Sovereignty Council’s media office stated that Ambassador Belaych affirmed that the systematic attacks against civilians, the killing of innocent people by the Rapid Support Forces, and the destruction of civilian infrastructure are acts condemned in the strongest terms, stressing that the perpetrators will not escape punishment.
He explained that the African Union attaches paramount importance to promoting dialogue among Sudanese parties and mobilizing resources to alleviate human suffering, saying, “We are working with our partners to achieve peace throughout a unified Sudan,” and expressing his hope that the new year will be a year of peace, prosperity, and well-being for the Sudanese people.
