A training Course on the Basics of Humanitarian Journalism in Karri locality

Director of the Sudanese Red Crescent Society – Khartoum State Branch, Dr. Mohamed Abdullah Ali, in the honor of the Secretary-General of the Sudanese Red Crescent Society, Ahmed Al-Tayeb Suleiman, inaugurated on Thursday a training course for 20 trainees, including journalists and officials of the Society’s media offices in the localities of Khartoum State. The course, entitled “The Basics of Humanitarian Journalism in Application to Covering the Activities of the Sudanese Red Crescent,” was held at the headquarters of the state branch in Karri locality.

The Director of the Khartoum State Branch welcomed the journalists participating in the course and praised their support for the Association and their interest in publishing its activities with high professionalism. He noted that they are volunteers with us despite the difficult working conditions.

The Secretary-General of the Assembly, Ahmed Al-Tayeb Suleiman, in a press conference regarding his visit to Khartoum, said that the purpose of the visit is to start the relocation of the General Secretariat to its headquarters in Khartoum from today and gradually, due to the presence of immediate challenges. All employees have been informed of the return, which will be completed soon. The visit also aims to learn about the conditions of the Khartoum State branch and the efforts provided to citizens.

He stressed that there are challenges, and that the situation is sad, and said that we are able to overcome the difficulties in line with the available activities and programs, and the implementation of the activities, and Al-Tayeb explained the lack of international support as a general situation in the world, and this was reflected in the situation in Sudan, but as an association, they did not stand idly by and made efforts to provide relief to the affected people with all international and local partners, and that their efforts will continue with all partners to avoid the effects of the war.

The course began with a lecture entitled “Spreading the Culture of the Sudanese Red Crescent Society – National Society”, presented by Mr. Ismail Mohamed Adam – Member of the Executive Office of the Society.

The course aims to enhance the capacities of media professionals and volunteers in the fields of humanitarian journalism, and to consolidate the principles of responsible professional coverage that takes into account humanitarian values and media ethics when addressing issues related to humanitarian work and the activities of the Sudanese Red Crescent, and to introduce the seven principles of the association’s work, and to introduce international badges.
