A campaign against measles and rubella  begins in six localities in Khartoum State

Six localities in Khartoum State (Khartoum, Bahri, Aumbeda, Jabal Aulia, East Nile, and Omdurman) have launched a vaccination campaign against measles and rubella for six days, which will continue until December 27. The campaign targets individuals aged 9 months to 15 years, totaling 1,836,351 persons, under the supervision of 11 federal supervisors. The campaign will utilize three strategies: fixed, mobile, and temporary centers, in addition to schools and kindergartens.

The President of the Federal Chamber for the Measles and Rubella Vaccination Campaign, Mohamed Al-Hussein Al-Hajj, stated during the first meeting of the Chamber today at the General Administration of Basic Health Care in the city of Kassala that the campaign has already been implemented in the city of Karri by 2024. He noted that with the completion of the campaign in the six municipalities in Khartoum State, the vaccine will be included in the routine vaccination.

Al-Hussein pointed out that all the states of Sudan have implemented the campaign except for the states of Darfur, North and West Kordofan, and a number of localities in South Kordofan. He added that the launch of the campaign in these states soon paves the way for the introduction of the measles and rubella vaccine into the routine vaccination schedule for the whole country.

The national expert, Dr. Babiker Al-Maqbool, confirmed that the campaign in Khartoum is gaining importance for several reasons, including the preparation for the introduction of the vaccine within the routine vaccination, the registration of infections in some areas, and the large target number, which requires working more seriously to ensure that all targets are reached.
