Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs Receives AU Special Envoy on the Prevention of Genocide

Ambassador Muawiya Osman Khalid, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, received Adama Deng, the African Union Special Envoy on the Prevention of Genocide, at his office today.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Undersecretary welcomed Mr. Deng and provided him with a detailed explanation of the developments in the country and the grave violations committed by the terrorist militia with the support of its regional sponsor. These violations include those recently perpetrated by the militia in El Fasher. The Undersecretary stated that the Sudanese government hopes the militia will be designated as a terrorist organization by the African Union and other international institutions. He also emphasized the need to pressure the regional sponsor and all entities supporting the terrorist militia to cease their support and arming of the group.

For his part, the African Union Special Envoy on the Prevention of Genocide expressed his regret for the tragedies suffered by the Sudanese people in this war. He affirmed that, through his position within the African Union, he would work to expedite efforts to halt the violations and support Sudan, with all its official and popular institutions, in reaching a consensus that would lead to a ceasefire and an end to the suffering.

The meeting concluded with an emphasis on cooperation and coordination between Sudanese state institutions and the Special Envoy within the framework of his assigned tasks to achieve shared objectives.
