Training Workshop to Enhance Hospitals’ Resilience in Emergencies and Disasters in Port Sudan

The Federal Ministry of Health (MoH) has affirmed its commitment to raising the efficiency of training for medical staff, noting that this is an important intervention to enhance the capacity of hospitals to be flexible within the health system, from the readiness stage to the recovery stage to deal with emergencies and disasters.

For his part, the Director of the National Agency for Emergency Care and Ambulance, Dr. Mohieddin Hassan, said that the mechanism of accident management in hospitals requires specific administrative skills and capabilities to manage crises, pointing to the importance of training as a main axis to raise the efficiency and readiness of staff working in hospitals.

Dr. Mohieddin stressed the importance of establishing a permanent system for managing events and disasters in health facilities and linking it to advance preparation and writing plans before the accident occurs.

Dr. Imad Ismail, from the World Health Organization, said: “We have been working with the Ministry of Health before the war, and our efforts have increased since then. We have supported 45 hospitals in all states, benefiting more than 1.5 million recipients. The goal was for hospitals to continue operating.

We are now moving into the second phase with the support of ten hospitals, and we will start supporting twenty more hospitals, ten of which are supported by the European Union. We hope, according to the minister’s vision, that we will focus on 100 hospitals by the end of the year.

We rely on trainees to transform hospitals into models, institutes and training institutions.”
