Sudan Obtains International Achievement by Receiving Courage Award for the SFPA in Indonesia
Among 134 organizations and countries representing the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), the Executive Director of Sudan Family Planning Association was selected to receive the Courage Award from the IPPF.
The International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) announced the selection of Alshafi Mohamed Ali, Executive Director of Sudan Family Planning Association (SFPA), as one of the recipients of the 2025 IPPF Courage Award in the Courageous MA Staff Champion category. This is one of the highest awards granted by the Federation in recognition of the efforts of staff members in member associations worldwide.
This honor comes as a culmination of the significant role played by SudanFamily Planning Association team across all its branches, volunteers, youth, and service providers, in ensuring the continued provision of sexual and reproductive health services in Sudan despite the humanitarian challenges and exceptional circumstances the country is experiencing.
The award was officially presented to the Executive Director during the Courage Awards ceremony held by the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) on November 19, 2025, in Bali, Indonesia, coinciding with the IPPF General Assembly, which was attended by representatives of member associations from various countries.
Commenting on this selection, Al-Shafi Mohamed Ali stated that the award “is not a personal recognition, but rather an international acknowledgment of the courage and dedication of all those working in Sudan Family Planning Association who continue to perform their duties faithfully under extremely difficult circumstances, placing community service above all else.”
He added that this honor reflects the association’s standing and role as a key component of the IPPF global network.
This achievement is a significant accomplishment for Sudan on the international stage and a further addition to the association’s record, as it continues to promote reproductive health services, empower youth, and provide humanitarian support through its programs across Sudan.
