South African Parliament Calls on External Parties to Stop Supporting and Funding the War in Sudan

The Chair of the South African Parliament’s Committee on International Relations and Cooperation, Supra Mahumapelo, strongly condemned the ongoing horrific massacres of civilians and attacks on essential services such as health centers in Sudan. In a statement issued by the Parliamentary Communications Service on behalf of the Chair of the Committee on International Relations and Cooperation yesterday (Monday), he said that the continued impunity, which has led to a devastating humanitarian catastrophe and left more than half the country’s population in dire need of life-saving assistance, is unacceptable and deeply regrettable. He also welcomed the emergency meeting convened by the African Union Peace and Security Council to discuss the serious deterioration of the situation in the Republic of Sudan. He added: “The Committee also welcomes the decisive intervention of the African Union at this critical juncture. It is essential to stop what is happening in Sudan and restore peace and stability.” Mr. Mahuma Bello concluded by saying:

“We also call on all external parties involved in this crisis to abide by international law and to cease all forms of support, funding, or facilitation of the warring armed parties.”
