Minnawi comments on EU sanctions against RSF

Darfur Governor, Minni Arko Minnawi, said: “We have all followed the news of the sanctions announced by the European Union against the criminal Abdul Rahim Dagalo.

This is a belated but important international step to stop the killing machine that has turned Sudan and Darfur region into an open arena of destruction and suffering.

As Governor of Darfur, I welcome these sanctions and consider them a necessary start to holding accountable all those involved in the heinous crimes against our people.

However, justice is not complete with the punishment of one person. I demand, firstly, that the rest of Abdul Rahim Dagalo’s brothers and all those who participated in and supported the Rapid Support Forces militia in killing innocent people and displacing villages be held accountable. Justice knows no family or big names.

Secondly, the leaders of the Rapid Support Forces militia who committed documented crimes must be held accountable.

These crimes cannot be ignored; their leaders must be held politically, legally, and financially accountable inside and outside Sudan.

Thirdly, we demand accountability from the countries that support the war, foremost among them the United Arab Emirates. We have suffered The people of Darfur have suffered from foreign interventions that fueled the conflict with weapons and money. The international community must deal seriously with every country that contributed to the continuation of the war. We will not allow this tragedy to be forgotten without justice, nor will we allow the blood of our martyrs to be buried without accountability. We will continue to work with all regional and international parties to bring every perpetrater to the table of justice.
