Governor of West Darfur: The militia is looking for a temporary break to resume the killing

The governor of West Darfur, General Bahr al-Din Adam Karama, said that the militia is treating the proposed truce as a malicious maneuver that has nothing to do with any humanitarian dimension or moral obligation towards civilians. The governor added that this group does not seek a ceasefire or the opening of humanitarian corridors, but is looking for a temporary break that will enable it to regroup its forces and resume the killing, displacement, and destruction campaigns it has waged non-stop against innocent citizens.

Karama pointed out that experiences have proven time and again that this militia only views truces as a cover for more treachery and an opportunity to launch new waves of brutal violence, looting property, burning villages, and terrorizing the population.

The governor stressed that any real and credible truce must be based on explicit and binding commitments, foremost of which is the roadmap submitted by the government to the United Nations. This roadmap includes the complete withdrawal of the militia from all cities, gathering in a known location, and handing over its heavy and light weapons without exception.

We also affirm that the Sudanese people will not be deceived by attempts to beautify and cheapen propaganda, and will not allow the truce to be turned into a bridge to cross new crimes or the continuation of chaos and violations.
