French MP Condemns UAE’s Role in the Genocide of the Sudanese People

In what has been described as a “moral outcry,” MP Christophe Marion, representing the Loire-et-Cher constituency in the French National Assembly, delivered “one of the most powerful and humane speeches in recent months,” according to many sources.

Addressing the French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Mr. Marion recalled the horrific suffering in Sudan, condemning the atrocities committed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), emphasizing the UAE’s support for this militia, and denouncing the international community’s silence on the matter. Mr. Marion was unable to hold back his tears as he recounted: “Women are being raped, civilians are being slaughtered, and the people of Darfur have been subjected to escalating ethnic cleansing since the fall of El Fasher. It is a true genocide by bullets that we are watching in stunned silence.” He went on to say that he “thinks every day about the refugees he met in Sudan two years ago, who are now forced to pay humiliating ransoms to free their relatives held captive by the militia, while the world turns a blind eye to their suffering.” The French MP then reviewed the atrocities committed by the militia, from videos of executions posted by the perpetrators themselves, to the massacre at the maternity hospital in El Fasher, which claimed the lives of 500 innocent people. He pointed to the 150,000 deaths since April 2023, the 16 million displaced persons and refugees, and the widespread famine across the country. He then addressed the French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, saying, “The silence of European capitals regarding the United Arab Emirates, which arms the hands of murderers, is no longer acceptable.” He called on his government to take action to ensure the safety of civilians fleeing to Tawila, to open humanitarian corridors for aid delivery, and to work with partners, especially the UAE, to stop arms shipments and pave the way for peace. As soon as he finished speaking, all the members of parliament stood up in respect, and the hall erupted in enthusiastic applause.
