Editorial: Deeds .. not Words!
Once again, Washington presents us with a repetitive speech brimming with political hypocrisy, attempting to polish its image through statements by its Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, regarding the crimes of militia forces in Sudan.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Wednesday lashed out at Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), calling for weapons supplies to be cut off to the group immediately.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a G7 meeting in Canada,
he accused the RSF of announcing an agreement on a humanitarian ceasefire, but they don’t intend to comply with it.
Rubio went on to suggest that the Trump administration would be open to designating the RSF as a foreign terror organization if it would help bring the war to an end.
The truth is that the US Administration knows perfectly well where the weapons are flowing from, who is funding them, and who enjoys political and media cover. Who opened the back doors to arming these militias? And who remained silent for so long about the smuggling of support and ammunition to them?
The statements of the US State Department no longer convince anyone. The problem isn’t the rhetoric, but the policy that protects the perpetrator and condemns the victim, beautifying the wolf’s face to make it appear gentle as a lamb.
Sudan doesn’t need statements of condemnation, but a genuine halt to the flow of weapons and an end to the support for destruction.
