Urgent Statement from the Prime Minister
Prime Minister Dr. Kamil Idris issued an important statement calling on the Sudanese people to fully mobilize in response to the aggression and crimes taking place in El Fasher and the Darfur states. He described the events there as “a desperate attempt to obliterate a civilization whose roots extend deep into human history.”
The following is the text of the statement:
Honorable citizens, we are all on full alert today, standing with our people in the afflicted cities of El Fasher and Bara, and throughout Sudan, to stop the ethnic cleansing, genocide, murder, slaughter, arson, torture, and crimes against women, children, and the elderly. We appeal to you today, at this critical juncture in the history of our country and our people, to stand united against this brutal aggression targeting the entire Sudanese nation. We have directed all ministries, government units, embassies, and diplomatic missions abroad to remain on full alert and to exert every effort to confront this aggression.
To the conscience of humanity and the enlightened minds of the peoples and governments of the world:
The atrocities witnessed in El Fasher have surpassed all description and comprehension.
The scenes of mass killings, torture, burning, and terror perpetrated by the Rapid Support Forces militia against unarmed civilians constitute unequivocally clear war crimes and crimes against humanity.
What is happening in El Fasher and the Darfur states is a desperate attempt to erase a civilization whose roots run deep into the annals of human history.
Today, at this critical juncture, we address the world’s conscience to declare unequivocally:
International silence is complicity in the crime, and inaction is an unjustifiable act, morally, humanely, and legally.
It is high time for the Security Council, regional organizations, and influential states to fully assume their responsibilities and put an end to this tragic chaos that threatens the lives of millions of civilians and the future of the entire region.
We demand immediate and unequivocal measures that guarantee:
• An immediate end to the ongoing crimes and violations,
• Full protection for civilians,
• The prosecution of all those who planned, financed, carried out, or facilitated these criminal acts.
Sudan is not an arena for settling scores, nor a field for fabricating false narratives or falsifying national memory.
Rather, it is an ancient homeland that has produced scholars, thinkers, and reformers, and has contributed to the advancement of humanity since the dawn of history.
The people of Sudan, despite their wounds and suffering, are offering the world today an enduring lesson in resilience and dignity. They expect the international community to stand with truth and justice, not merely to issue timid statements of condemnation and feeble denunciations.
Sudan is a nation deeply rooted in history, its civilization stretching back to the dawn of humanity. It is the beating heart of Africa, the meeting point of the Arab and African worlds.
It is the land of great kingdoms, the cradle of the Kushites and Meroes, and the land of the first civilizations that taught humanity the meaning of construction, dignity, and justice.
Throughout history, Sudan has extended its hand to all; it has taught, embraced, sheltered, and opened its heart, even before its land, to all who sought its door.
Its people are by nature free and noble, of high moral character, radiating humanity. They do not accept oppression, nor do they tolerate humiliation, and they will remain so as long as the sun rises on their green land and their mighty Nile flows with life and bounty.
O people of conscience, O you in whose hearts a spark of humanity remains,
We say to you: History is recording, and it will remember those who stood with the Sudanese people, just as it will clearly record those who chose silence and betrayal.
We call upon the United Nations, the Security Council, the African Union, the League of Arab States, and relevant international organizations to fully assume their legal and moral responsibilities, and to take clear and bold stances condemning these atrocities, working to stop them immediately, and to prosecute their perpetrators. Without delay.
The people of Sudan will not be broken, will not surrender, and will remain as they have been throughout their glorious history—a people of civilization, dignity, and humanity.
We raise our hands in supplication with humility and sincere faith, asking the Almighty to enfold the victims of these atrocities in His mercy and forgiveness, and to grant them a place in His spacious Paradise with the martyrs and the righteous.
As we consider them martyrs of the homeland and dignity in the eyes of God, we affirm that their pure blood will not be shed in vain. Rather, it will remain a beacon reminding the world of the greatness and resilience of this people, and that this nation, no matter how severe the trials it faces, will remain proud, dignified, and unbreakable.
