Sudan unveils comprehensive plan for mineral monitoring and mapping

The Geological Research Authority in Sudan announced a plan to prepare a national mineral map showing the locations and quantities of mineral deposits in the country, including gold, copper, iron, chromium, and uranium, based on geological studies and field explorations.

The Authority’s Director General, Consultant Geologist Ahmed Haroun Al-Toum, said that the map will be used as a strategic tool to support the efforts of the state and companies in identifying investment opportunities in the mining sector. He pointed out that it represents a basis for economic and development planning, in addition to its scientific importance.

Al-Toum confirmed that the Authority has begun securing logistical and field transportation facilities in the states, despite the challenges of war. It is also working to implement long-term training programs funded by grants and cooperation agreements with several research institutions, including the National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics, the Institute of Metallurgy, and the National Authority for Remote Sensing.

He added that the Authority is moving forward with digital transformation projects and intends to install new laboratories in River Nile and Northern states, in addition to launching a plan to train its staff in drone exploration techniques.
