Minnawi Affirms Darfur Will Remain Part of Sudan

Darfur Governor Minni Arko Minnawi stated that the region is part of a unified Sudan and that the battle with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) is existential.

Minnawi said on Tuesday that El Fasher and the surrounding villages witnessed “massacres and brutal genocide perpetrated by the Rapid Support Forces militia.”

In a televised address, Minnawi added that “the Rapid Support Forces militia promoted its impending massacres more than a week ago, warning its fighters against filming the criminal acts, in an attempt to obscure the truth and bury witnesses with the victims.”

Minnawi, in his address, referred to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), saying, “These are not leaders or statesmen, but rather paid agents of destruction. Anyone who assists them or justifies their continued presence is a criminal.”

He added “We, the people of Darfur, are an integral part of Sudan. To ensure the unity of Sudan, the tool exploited by the forces seeking occupation—the Rapid Support Forces—must be defeated. This is an existential battle that will not end with the fall of a single city.”

He also spoke about the next phase, saying, “We will focus on the issue of displacement and refuge, which the Rapid Support Forces deliberately caused. The crimes must be documented for condemnation and to ensure that there is no impunity. We must also work to garner support to provide the necessary needs for the displaced.”
