“Cash-for-Work” “Resilience Building for Returnees and Host Communities Project ”

The Cash-for-Work initiative is a large-scale cleaning campaign across all sectors of East Nile Locality. It was officially inaugurated on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, starting from Maidan Al-Mawlid in the Dar Al-Salam Al-Maghariba neighborhood, in the presence of distinguished government officials, underlining the importance of this community-driven initiative.

The project benefits 350 community members, who receive financial contributions in return for their active participation in cleaning and sanitation activities. These include removing waste and garbage, clearing and dismantling obstacles from roads, and rehabilitating public spaces.

The campaign goes beyond practical fieldwork, also featuring a package of awareness activities, workshops, and training sessions. These sessions aim to raise participants’ awareness, strengthen their community development skills, and build their capacities to ensure the sustainability of efforts and achieve a long-term positive impact.

Minister of Social Development of Khartoum State,Siddiq Farini and Mortada Yacoub Banga, Executive Director of East Nile Locality (Sharg En Nile ), participated in Dar Al-Salam Al-Maghariba Square in East Nile locality in the Great Campaign for Cleanliness and Environmental Sanitation organized by Sadaqat Charitable Organization within its cash-for-work project funded by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in cooperation with the East Nile Local Sanitation Authority. This event was attended by the Director of the Cleanliness Board, Nojoomi Jaras, Mohamed Saghiroun from Sadaqat Organization, UNDP representative, and a group of managers of administrative units and coordinators of Administrative Units Committees.

The Minister of Social Development, Siddiq Freni, expressed his praise for the significant interventions made by the Sadaqat organization and its international partner, which contributed effectively to supporting the citizens of the state. He expressed his hope that this initiative will contribute to improving the environmental situation in the locality, eliminating the accumulation of waste, and addressing the weaknesses in collection mechanisms.

Mohamed Saghiroun, Director of the Office of Sadaqat Organization in Khartoum State, pointed out that the funding provided by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) was used for cleanliness campaigns in coordination with the East Nile Local Sanitation Authority to contribute to the cleanliness work to provide temporary job opportunities for participants from the local community component for 22 days, in which daily salaries are paid to 350 participants, in addition to providing the required mechanisms and tools for the process of removing rubble, sweeping streets, and opening sewage, accompanied by a roving health awareness campaign to cover 6 administrative units.

Nojoomi Jaras, Director of the Cleanliness Authority, explained that the aim of the campaign is to strengthen cleanliness efforts in the locality by removing all forms of visual pollution and negative phenomena. He stated that the Authority is continuing to improve cleanliness work in the area.

Mortada Yacoub Banga, Executive Director of East Nile Locality, thanked all the participants in the campaign and the local citizens who understood its purpose, the results of which will be evident on the ground. He also expressed gratitude to the charitable organization Sadaqat and its partner, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

He indicated the locality’s endeavor to organize campaigns to include all local units, accompanied by intensive efforts to combat mosquitoes and disease vectors to reduce the spread of dengue fever and related diseases, stressing the continuation of strategic cooperation between the local authorities and the ministry through its national and international partners.

Youth are the pillars of society and its most important foundation. They represent the driving force of progress and change, possessing great energy and creativity that propel development and prosperity in all social, economic, and cultural sectors. Investing in communities through their youth—by providing education, empowering them in decision-making, and supporting their initiatives—is key to building a better future.

Young people also have immense potential, limitless creativity, and a desire to make a positive difference in their communities. They should be given a role in making decisions that concern them and the future of society, and their opinions and suggestions should be listened to.

Directing the energies and abilities of young people towards meaningful actions and development projects that benefit the community is a national duty.

The campaign is not limited to the practical aspect; it also includes a package of awareness activities, workshops, and training lectures. These sessions aim to raise participants’ awareness, enhance their skills in the field of community advancement, and build their capacity to ensure the sustainability of efforts and achieve a long-term positive impact.

The enthusiasm is still continuing during the campaign. The youth cut down trees and grasses and continue with the same enthusiasm and activity, which has found acceptance and satisfaction from the people of the area, provided that it continues tomorrow according to the schedule of the program: work inside residential neighborhoods and waste collection.

The youth called upon the residents of the neighborhoods to go out to the streets and help them collect the waste from their houses so that it can be gathered and lifted by the locality’s garbage truck that roams the streets to pick up the garbage.

“We want encouragement from you to raise morale and stand with us so that we can continue our work. Our culture will keep us clean and free of mosquitoes and diseases. Yaha, this is our home; we must take care of it…”

Sadagaat:successful projects ongoing ….

Sadagaat Charity organization is a registered charity of the Voluntary and Humanitarian Action Commission, which has been active in assisting vulnerable groups for more than 15 years, during which many successful projects, whether seasonal or ongoing, have been implemented through the support of philanthropists from within and outside Sudan. Under 4 Divisions : Feeding, Health, Wash, and Education. The implementation of these projects is by an integrated administrative body, starting with membership in the Sadagaat community and ending with an executive unit that directly supervises daily activities. The small executive body that implements the projects depends on: Administrative competence in coordination and scientific methodology.
